Meet Jon
My Disney journey didn't start at birth, but rather at age 13—just old enough to vividly remember the magic but young enough to spend the next two decades eagerly anticipating my return. Though Disney holds special memories, my love for adventure (and a good thrill ride) extends far beyond just one park. Whether it’s the towering coasters at Six Flags or deconstructing the mesmerizing detail of Disney’s Imagineering masterpieces—like Guardians of the Galaxy, which feels like Walt’s original vision for Space Mountain—I’m hooked on the joy, imagination, and storytelling that these experiences create.
But let's be real: not every theme park day is picture-perfect sunny. On one particularly memorable night at Magic Kingdom, a sudden, epic downpour cut the fireworks short, creating a chaotic yet hilarious stampede for cover. Another rain-soaked adventure found me stranded in a flooded parking lot, courtesy of leaving my car's lights on all day. After two frustrating hours of failed jump-start attempts, soaked clothes, and rising regret over the forgotten headlights, I finally got the engine to turn over—and only then could I laugh (a little) about how miserable the whole thing had been: rain doesn't ruin the day—it makes the memory.
Fast-forward to a recent trip during runDisney weekend in fall 2024. Though my half marathon day was thankfully dry, a different park day found me caught unprepared amidst an ocean of identical, bland ponchos. All those carefully planned family shirts—the vibrant expressions of individual spirit—vanished under uniform plastic coverings. In that moment, inspiration struck: why not turn ponchos into another canvas for family fun, creativity, and personal expression?
Because rain has a funny way of amplifying the magic. It clears crowds, refreshes the air, brings spontaneous fun, and transforms minor inconveniences into the stories families retell forever. My quirky tradition of making grass-angels in the hub—even when it’s wet—reminds me that life’s best moments often come unexpectedly.
Ultimately, my goal with our ponchos is simple yet profound: to help families and friends not just weather the rain, but cherish the memories it creates. Because long after the vacation ends, it’s these stories—shared over holiday dinners, graduation parties, or even quiet moments saying goodbye—that truly keep the magic alive.
